About the Band
North Star is a collaboration between Bay Area singer / songwriters Hilary, Maya and Leah. The band was formed out of weekly songwriting gatherings at Leah's Fairfax Studio. We fell in love with each other's songs and harmonizing together. Inspired by other collaborations of female songwriters we admired, like the Rainbow girls, Plains and Highwoman, we decided to see what we could create together. Believing whole heartily in how soulful, honest music can bring together, uplift and inspire people and serve something greater than ourselves. Leah's sister gave us the name, noting this act of service will remain your North Star.

Growing up in Los Angeles in the 70’s her parents record collection, with all the great singer/songwriter’s of that era, Joni Mitchel, Cat Stevens, Van Morrison, Simon and Garfunkel, served as the backdrop to her childhood. Their music was a big influence on her songwriting. “Those artist’s had emotionality and imagery in their songs, they impressed upon you a place and a time.”
Maya Dorn

Bay Area based Maya Dorn is a singer, songwriter, producer, and DJ. Her playful nature and talent for improvising makes her a dynamic and captivating artist - equal parts dreamy, hilarious, and irresistibly catchy.
Leah Fairbanks
A Canadian transplant in the Bay Area Leah's an accomplished writer and editor and has dedicated herself to songwriting and music throughout the years.. WIth a voice reminiscent of Gillian Welch and a stunning way of telling stories of love, loss and redemption she open's the listeners heart and lets them into her's.
