Carole Long from Ōtanewainuku Kiwi Trust in the Bay of Plenty is keen to share the work done by their volunteers in partnership with DOC, Kiwi Encounter and the Warrenheip creche. It is almost 20 years since the Trust was launched at Oropi School and the Ōtanewainuku forest has become home to breeding pairs of kiwi and kokako, as well as a great range of other native birds. Pest control is always a challenge but the support locally has made a huge difference and let the forest be a safe haven for our precious birds.
