NENA has reserved space in the Emmaus Center at Cathedral of the Rockies on Wednesday, 12/10 at 7pm to bring together the North End community with representatives from the City, ACHD, and Boise Police. Administrators, teachers, and other staff from all public and private schools as well as all preschools and daycares within neighborhood boundaries have also been invited. The conversation surrounding the safety of neighborhood streets for pedestrians has been ongoing for many years, but has now reached a new level of urgency following the tragic loss of Washington student Mora Gerety. Residents are eager to speak with and hear from the agencies who can make meaningful changes to help reduce the risk for all who use our neighborhood streets.
We have a team of professional mediators who have agreed to help facilitate this conversation, and an agenda will be posted to our website and shared here prior to the meeting.
We see this meeting as an opportunity for community members to share their concerns and identify problems to be solved, while City agencies can listen, learn, and provide answers about possible solutions and what timelines neighbors can expect for implementation. We do not intend for all problems to be solved at this meeting, and it is possible that there will be additional meetings in the future.
To help inform the conversation, NENA has released a survey (linked). This survey will be open until Friday, 11/28. The data collected will be shared with the City and ACHD in advance of the meeting.
