The North Coast Symphonic Band (NCSB) presents a program of music featuring “Jazz, Pop, and Rock ‘n’ Roll” at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2023 at the Liberty Theatre. The band is conducted by Terry Dahlgren of Warrenton, Oregon.“You’ve never heard anything like this before,” said Dahlgren. The program will feature an eclectic mix of music ranging from W.C. Handy to The Beatles and The Who. “It’s a venerable time capsule of some of the music that would have been popular up to and including the early 1970s,” Dahlgren said. “The first half of the program features the St. Louis Blues, published in 1914 - which may be the first blues tune to be a huge popular hit. In addition, the band will be playing a few medleys, including Selections from Chicago and Duke Ellington In Concert. Not only will the band be dipping into Dixieland and blues tunes, but also having a little fun with songs from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and even The Blues Brothers.” NCSB Board President Brian Bergman will be the concert’s emcee.
Local sax quartet Quadrophone will perform concert prelude music from 1:30 to 1:55 PM while the audience gathers. Regular admission is $15 and student admission is $8. Advance tickets can be purchased at the Liberty Theater Box Office from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays or online at www.libertyastoria.showare.com. Tickets will also be available at the door starting at noon the day of the concert. The Liberty Theatre is located at the corner of 12th and Commercial streets in Astoria.
