Nor Any Drop To Drink, a solo exhibition by Alexis Bamforth, explores key topics crucial to our survival. Expect installation you need to crawl into, sculpture, film and performance.
Bamforth is a British artist and ecology catalyst who explores relationships between the natural world and socio-economic systems. Evolved from Conceptual, Land art and Arte Povera, he uses cultural references to discuss ideas around human and nature equality.
His multidisciplinary work has probed social trends and humankind’s effects on Earth since 1989. Much of it decays or evolves over time. The material and physical change are important, reflecting the natural life cycle and reminding us of the possibility of change. Playing with the modes of art itself he manages to break new ground across multiple mediums. Bamforth’s manipulated photocopies predate Sigmar Polke’s, his Banana predates Maurizio Cattelan’s and his satirical NFT stolen by Pak who sold it for 1.36m is probably still the smallest artwork ever.
Despite exhibiting internationally from Times Square to the V&A, most of his work is to be found in public spaces, for the people, for social purposes. Essentially his work is an act of service, a charitable giving of time and ideas.
Nor Any Drop To Drink will be the third show of the 2024 Tellus Triannual Programme.
