About this Event

This event is co-hosted by Ontario Nonprofit Network and Women’s Enterprise Skills Training (WEST) of Windsor Inc.

Join us for Nonprofit Driven Regional Connects: Windsor-Essex, an opportunity for nonprofits, charities, and community organizations across the region to connect, deepen relationships, and discuss big-picture issues with a local lens to work together for a thriving nonprofit environment.

We cannot address complex issues alone or in siloes. Coming together builds our resilience and relationships; and the impact on our people is the guiding light. Learn what's going on in your community and with your colleagues, share your own experiences, and draw connections to what's going on in different regions across Ontario. Let's recognize and celebrate just how much Windsor-Essex is nonprofit-driven.

What to expect:

  • Get practical data, information about policies and trends impacting nonprofits in Windsor-Essex and across Ontario, and resources that you can use right away.
  • Make connections over the issues that matter to you - learn from local experts and the ONN policy team, and have conversations about what's happening in your own communities.
  • An opportunity to learn about and actively contribute to the development of a Care Policy Scorecard specific to Ontario, a practical tool to measure and track government progress and commitments on policies that have a direct impact on unpaid and paid care.
  • Contribute to a collaborative zine project: a nonprofit-driven resource about the nonprofit difference!
  • Enjoy breakfast and lunch with nonprofit colleagues.
  • After the event, all registrants will receive slides, notes, and links to resources.

Host Organizations:

ONN is an independent network for the 58,000 nonprofits in Ontario, focused on policy, advocacy, and services to strengthen Ontario’s nonprofit sector as a key pillar of our society and economy.

ONN works to create a public policy environment that strengthens nonprofits so they can do more. They activate nonprofit networks by convening and engaging organizations, leaders, and stakeholders to tackle cross-cutting issues at a sector-wide level. ONN’s efforts are bringing the voices of the sector to policy- and decision-makers.

Women’s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc. (WEST) was developed in 1984 as a response to disproportionately high levels of unemployment among women and the difficulties experienced by women attempting to enter the workforce. During the course of development, it became apparent that the most disadvantaged women, in terms of training and employment opportunities, were visible minorities. As a result of those findings, a plan was implemented to create a technical and life skills training program specific to the needs of visible minority women residing in Windsor-Essex. WEST, a non-profit corporation and registered charitable organization, is the realization of that initiative.

With funding from Human Resources Development Canada, WEST opened its doors in February 1987, offering unique training opportunities for women from Windsor-Essex and around the globe. Through skills enhancement and volunteer placements, visible minority women have been prepared for entry to employment and have moved closer to achieving the success they desire.
