About this Event
As part of NOLA Water Week, we're closing out the commemorative week with joy, music, and community at our inaugural WATERMelon Fest, an outdoor celebration for all ages! In partnership with Ruby Slipper, this family-friendly festival will be the grand finale of our weeklong reflection and reimagining of New Orleans’ relationship with water, marking 20 years since Hurricane Katrina. We’ll celebrate our resilience and collective future through music, food, education, and, of course…..watermelon!
Watermelon isn’t just a fruit; it’s a cultural symbol of human ingenuity, resilience, and pride. A play on words, the WATERMelon Fest will also be a platform to discuss water with a larger audience, as watermelon is 91% water and was used to store water during long droughts in the fruit’s historical homeland of Africa.
