About this Event

Nogu Svelo! Is a contemporary cult rock band formed in 1988 in Moscow. The band’s songs are notable for their distinct sense of humor, poetic self-irony, and stylistic variety.

The founder, lead singer, bass guitarist, and writer of all the band’s repertoire Max Pokrovskiy considers himself to be a son of Moscow Rock Laboratory, an official organization that was helping young talented musicians to make their first steps during the Perestroyka epoch.

Representing the unique Moscow style and sound of that time Max was also always inspired by western, mostly British and American, music.

The band gained nationwide popularity in 1993 with their super-hit Haru Mamburu. The lyrics of this tune were written in a language invented by Max. In fact, this language is nothing but gibberish. But even up to date people are still trying to find some hidden meaning in it or to recognize English words and translate them.

Besides Haru Mamburu the most famous songs of the early period of NS! include such compositions as “Our young funny voices”, “Moscow Romance”, Lilliput Love” and others.

Nogu Svelo! is one of the strongest concert bands. Their live performances have always been legendary. The band periodically participates in such festivals as Nashestvie, Maxidrom, Kubana, VK Fest, and others.

Throughout their history Nogu Svelo! released 15 albums, 55 official video clips, and won a number of national and international awards such as “Generation”, “Zvezda”, “Ovatsia”, “Golden Stag” (Romania), MTV Movie Awards (Russia), and others.

In 2005 Nogu Svelo! wrote the title song “Go East” for “Turkish Gambit”, the movie produced by Russian TV channel 1, that became the number one bestseller.

With that song, the band won the MTV Russia music award in the nomination “The Best Soundtrack”.

Besides “Turkish Gambit” the Nogu Svelo’s existing songs are periodically used for fiction, documentary movies, and ads along with music, written by Max especially for that purpose.

Max is one of the most prominent participants in the Russian version of the worldwide reality show Survivor. He took part in two consequence seasons and wrote a hit single “I’m Not The Last Hero” being inspired by his life on the Island.

Since 2016 Max has been based in New York City where he rounded up a NY lineup. The band successfully tours North America with the new lineup and continues their regular activity in Russia and the former USSR countries.

In 2019 Nogu Svelo! celebrated their 30th anniversary. Under the auspices of this landmark event, the band delighted their fans with a unique show in the Kremlin Palace on November 30th, 2018.

The COVID epoch inspired Max to write songs that the audience immediately related to. That brought the band a new wave of popularity. The first four 2020 tracks were released as an album named “4 stages of quarantine”.

Three new singles came out right away.

“You pissed me off (Zaebali)” was written 2 days after dramatic events in Belarus. Three days later when the band was getting ready for filming the video for the song, the news about poisoning the leader of Russian opposition Alexey Navalny broke.

The video for “The silence of the lambs” is based on the newsreel of protests in Belarus and Russia.

“ Farewell, 2020!” video produced as a kaleidoscope of newspaper headlines featuring the most markable events of last year.

In early 2021 the band released their new album “Perfumery” and announced their spring Siberian tour. But this completely sold-out tour has never taken place because the band had allegedly gotten banned by the regime for Max’s public support of Russian opposition.

In July 2021 one more band’s concert in Saint Petersburg had been canceled because the artist had a show at the same venue the day before Nogu Svelo! had violated the COVID regulations. The inspection ordered the venue to stop concert activity and correct violations.

Max posted an emotional video on Instagram where he addressed the artist that became a reason for the issue. The video got viral immediately and the conflict between two artists became nationwide breaking news.

Max turned the conflict to the creative direction which resulted in a new hit-single ***beep***LAN”, that broke Russian Youtube music charts and had been trending for more than a week.

Even though Nogu Svelo! turned a sad situation into a fun story, the band intends to continue writing songs focused on social and political issues. The new single is called “ The last day in Paradise” and is going to be released in September 2021.
