About The Lies We Leave Behind. . .
Somewhere in the Pacific, 1943. Kate Campbell is a nurse who bravely flies back and forth from the front to rescue wounded soldiers, amid long days, harsh conditions and often dangerous weather. Driven by a deep personal need to help in the war effort, she is conflicted when an injury results in her reassignment to the relative comfort of the English countryside.
Love has never been part of her plan, but despite herself, she falls for an officer with three bullet wounds, startling blue eyes and a wicked sense of humor. For the first time, Kate sees a future far from the horrors of war and hate. But before she can pursue it, a secret from her past calls her to duty, and she'll have to travel back into danger one more time to rescue a part of herself she'd left behind. But will she make it back? And will that future still be waiting for her if she does?
Praise for The Lies We Leave Behind. . .
“Noelle Salazar has an unerring instinct for writing tough women with big hearts. Flight nurse Kate Campbell has learned well from her hospital tour in the Pacific: keep your emotions locked down, your mind on your patients, and leave everything else behind as soon as the combat plane leaves the ground. But an injury sends her back stateside and then to the thick of the European front, where a blue-eyed soldier tempts her with promise of a softer future—if a deadly secret from Kate's carefully-hidden past doesn't destroy everything first. THE LIES WE LEAVE BEHIND is a globe-spanning wartime journey filled with pathos and heart!”
—Kate Quinn, author of The Rose Code
“Perfectly compelling from first page to last. Here is an expertly researched work of historical fiction about how the crucible of war so often burns away the temporal and immaterial and shows us what we really desire and have convinced ourselves we need—and what we’re willing to do to win it. It’s the WW2 story you haven’t read and need to.”
—Susan Meissner, author of Only the Beautiful
“This book has my heart. An emotional yet hopeful journey, with so many twists and turns I did not see coming, The Lies We Leave Behind feels like an instant war-time classic. Noelle Salazar's latest is sure to be a favorite for 2024 and well beyond.”
—Jenni L. Walsh, author of Unsinkable
