Nocturnal Safari & Stargazing

Discover the natural world after dark on an exciting night-time adventure as we explore the stars, search for nocturnal critters, and reveal secret biofluorescence!
The event will take place on the St Fillans golf course where we will be stargazing as a group. Learn the constellations, catch a glimpse of the milky way, and hopefully spot some meteors! The Geminid meteor shower reaches its maximum this night, so if we are lucky, we could see many bright, colourful meteors. The Geminids are one of the most active meteor showers of the year, with up to 120 meteors per hour at its peak (although likely lower depending on conditions). You never know, it could be a good night for the Aurora as well!
We will also have some specialist equipment set up for everyone to get a chance to use, including thermal and infrared cameras to see wildlife in the dark. There is a chance of spotting or hearing long-eared owl, barn owl, deer, pine marten, hedgehog, stoats, or rabbits if we are lucky. Assuming we can all keep quiet enough to attract them of course!
There will also be UV torches available. Come explore how different plants and animals show up as biofluorescent under UV torchlight! You may see glowing lichens, mosses, bark, insects, or fungi.
Meet us in the St Fillans golf course car park at 20:00 for the start of the event. If you arrive late, look for our red light torches out in the course. Please wear warm clothing, sturdy footwear, and bring waterproofs. We will provide hot chocolate to help keep the chill at bay! We also highly encourage everyone to bring a red light torch if you have one, or use a red light filter on your phone so everyone's eyes can properly adjust to the dark for stargazing.
Please note that this event is heavily dependent on the weather. We want to make sure everyone has the best experience and are able to see as many natural phenomenon as possible. In the event of a cancellation, we will reschedule for later in December when there is better visibility for stargazing.
This event is donation based. We suggest a minimum donation of £5 per person. Please book on Eventbrite so we can email you with any last minute updates or changes to the event. If you are placing one order for multiple people, please let us know how many people are coming!
See you there! 🌟
