Praised by the Los Angeles Times as “one of the most talked-about companies nationwide,” BODYTRAFFIC returns to New Orleans with a powerful, one-of-a-kind performance commemorating the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. At the heart of the evening is a special restaging of works by internationally acclaimed choreographer Trey McIntyre: Ma Maison and excerpts from The Sweeter End—poignant, powerful works that pay tribute to the indomitable spirit of the Crescent City. Originally commissioned by NOBA in 2008 as a collaboration between McIntyre and the legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Ma Maison has been described as “vibrant New Orleans-style jazz and brilliant contemporary ballet” (L.A. Times). Performed with Preservation Hall on stage, this rare restaging is both a remembrance and a celebration—a true testament to the resilience and richness of New Orleans. The evening also includes McIntyre’s Mayday, an emotionally charged work set to the iconic music of Buddy Holly. Drawing on themes of longing, vulnerability, and Americana, Mayday showcases McIntyre’s gift for blending storytelling with bold, inventive movement.
This extraordinary creative partnership between BODYTRAFFIC, Trey McIntyre, and Preservation Hall Jazz Band delivers a program that is both powerful and deeply moving—one that celebrates the transformative power of art in the city that inspires it most: New Orleans.
