Join Electric Umbrella for a “premiere” performance of our new learning programme, a thought-provoking celebration around the challenges and opportunities of meaningfully involving learning disabled people in schools, the workplace, the community and the world.Electric Umbrella is a charity that works with learning disabled people.
Over the past year their members have delivered ‘Electric Umbrella Express’ workshops and performances in mainstream primary schools, “Music Machine” workshops in SEN schools, and ‘Pushing Boundaries’ programme in corporate and social care settings, across Hertfordshire and beyond. In doing so they have engaged with over 40,000 people.
As part of a residency at Sarratt Primary School, Electric Umbrella have been developing a new education programme which will support everyone to think deeply about equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).
There will be miles of music (which is the Electric Umbrella way) and masses of creativity to ensure that you will leave with much to reflect on.
Plenty of practical ideas and some helpful resources will ensure you feel more confident addressing these difficult questions. Importantly, you’ll have lots of fun along the way, learning about being “more Electric Umbrella”.
The programme will explore the following themes:
What is EDI?
Prejudice
Language and Social Literacy
The Social Model of Disability
Learning Disabled people as leaders
Integration vs inclusion
Everyone is different (or “unconventional”)
This performance will bring it all to life – making the invisible visible!
You’re in for a treat with a stunning production using music and film to provide an amazing response to the questions raised by these themes, It will introduce a set of newly written songs, and accompanying materials, created specifically as training resources.
This event follows a morning of workshops for head teachers, other senior leaders and creatives working within the education sector. For details of the full day’s programme, please go to https://www.electricumbrella.co.uk/unconvention
