About this Event
NO PRIDE IN GENOCIDE- QUEERS FOR PALESTINE AND AGAINST COLONIALISM!
Our theme this year is 'NO PRIDE IN GENOCIDE'- a rallying cry against Israel's genocide in Gaza which has lasted over a year, and the occupation of Palestine which has lasted decades. Labor's silence on one of the greatest modern atrocities is shocking and shameful, and we will not allow the IDF to pinkwash their crimes. Queer rights and representation cannot be built on the blood of civilians.
We are also sending a message to Labor about their utter failure to protect queer and trans rights- whether it's their endless delaying and watering-down of the Equality Bill, their pandering to the queerphobic right, or their continuing border regime which has put trans women in mandatory detention. Labor's two-faced hypocrisy over LGBTQ+ rights should be challenged in the streets, and that's what we're going to do at Mardi Gras.
No-one will be turned away for lack of funds- however, we are a volunteer and community-run float, so generous donations or paying for a Solidarity ticket is highly appreciated.
We will meet at Town Hall prior to the march, and move to the marshalling area at Hyde Park, where we will mingle with other floats before moving to Oxford Street and marching to the end of the parade route. Please notify us if you require special accomodations for accessibility. Bringing signs, flags and banners is not mandatory, but highly encouraged!
