The Vancouver Island University Students’ Union (VIUSU) invites community members, organizations, and allies to join us for the annual No More Stolen Sisters Memorial March.
Held in alignment with the national Sisters in Spirit movement, this march honours the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+ people (MMIWG2S+). It is a time for collective remembrance, reflection, and solidarity, and a call for justice, safety, and accountability.
Each year, the march brings together Indigenous leaders, families, students, educators, community organizations, and allies to stand in remembrance of those lost and to affirm the inherent rights, dignity, and safety of Indigenous women, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse people.
The march will begin at Diana Krall Plaza and proceed through downtown Nanaimo, including a moment of silence and reflection outside Evolve Nightclub, the last known location of Lisa Marie Young before she went missing in 2002. The gathering will conclude at Maffeo Sutton Park with words, songs, and shared remembrance.
This gathering is grounded in respect, cultural protocol, and community care. All are welcome to attend in a spirit of humility, learning, and solidarity.
