In this 30 minute workshop, art consultant Hannah Kathleen McMaster will break down the why and how of buying work from local, emerging artists, highlighting the abundance of artist-run and cooperative gallery spaces unique to Chicago.
Plus, we'll review tips for approaching commercial galleries to acquire established artworks. Explore the West Town Art walk with a fresh perspective on the importance of collecting at any level.
Hannah Katheen McMaster is a Chicago-based printmaker and art consultant. She has taught both independently and for local institutions like Lillstreet Art Center and SkyArt, while concurrently selling artwork for commercial dealers specializing in contemporary art. Disillusioned from years in the "fine art world," she's learned to question museums, galleries, and art schools that are unapproachable and exclusionary. Even when teaching in a studio setting, Hannah actively promotes ways to successfully print from anywhere, with tools that are accessible by all. She holds firm to the idea that expression through democratized forms of artmaking fosters the connection to empower both artists and art enthusiasts in enacting social change.
