From Drawings to Dollars is an NKBA educational event hosted at Plenium Builders, designed to give designers and industry professionals a behind-the-scenes look at how builders interpret plans, assess risk, and price projects in the real world.

Rather than focusing on “perfect drawings,” this session dives into how builders think, where uncertainty shows up in pricing, and how clearer intent can reduce RFIs, contingencies, and costly surprises once construction begins.

You’ll walk away with insight into:

• How builders evaluate plans and specifications during pricing
• Why unclear scope, selections, or intent increase risk — and cost
• Common documentation pitfalls that affect bids and execution
• Practical ways designers can support clearer pricing and smoother construction

The evening will begin with happy hour networking, followed by the NKBA-approved CEU presentation.

Melanie Heilig, NCIDQ

Project Executive | Plenium Builders

Melanie brings over 28 years of experience in the construction and design industry, with a background spanning interior design, drafting, and project management across custom residential and commercial projects. She holds a degree in Interior Design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco and is a certified NCIDQ professional. As a Project Executive at Plenium Builders, Melanie leads a team of ten people dedicated to delivering high-quality interior and custom home projects. Melanie has been with Plenium Builders for four years and leads construction of new homes and remodels throughout the Northern Nevada and Western Sierra region.

Toby serves as President of Plenium Builders, providing executive leadership across company operations, strategic growth, and client relationships. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado and a master’s degree in construction management from the University of California, Berkeley. With more than two decades in the construction industry, Toby’s background spans field operations, project
management, preconstruction, and executive leadership across a wide range of building types. Since 2020, he has led Plenium Builders, guiding company operations and strategic leadership for work throughout Northern Nevada and the Western Sierra.
