About this Event
Join us for the official launch of The Nizaam, a new musical collaboration by British artist Rubaya Pirzada and internationally renowned sitar player Wajih Nizami. Drawing from classical, folk, and contemporary South Asian traditions, The Nizaam weaves music rooted in heritage with contemporary expression.
This special launch event takes place ahead of the band’s upcoming tour of Pakistan and marks the beginning of a wider cross-disciplinary arts and research programme connecting England, India, and Pakistan through music, dance, and participatory art.
At the heart of The Nizaam is a creative exploration of Sufi musical and performance traditions, brought into dialogue with the histories of anti-racist and intercultural activism that shaped Britain’s civic life in the 20th century. Through performance, conversation, and community engagement, the project seeks to build cross-community solidarity and foster deeper intercultural understanding.
The launch will take place at the Himmah Solidarity Hub on Saturday 17 January 2026, 4:30pm–7:30pm.
This project is supported by Himmah, The New Art Exchange and SOAS University of London, supporting respectful and meaningful dialogue across differences.
