of the 2025-2026 Winter season! This Saturday 8 Nov 2025 Nisseman will kick off again as big and bad as ever. Experienced and new triathletes are welcome. I am looking forward to seeing you there. Registration is now open!
DATES
The dates this season are 8 Nov 2025, 13-14 Dec 2025 (special triathlon weekend with superstar guest), 10 Jan 2026, 8 Feb 2026, 8 Mar 2026.
ATTENDANCE REGISTRATION
Simply click on âGoingâ on the facebook event and then Vipps 200 kr to BTC at 43935. If you are not a BTC member in 2025 you should pay 250 kr and the extra 50 Kr will pay for membership for the rest of 2025. The first 50 who register and pay will be the ones attending based on the âfĂžrste mann til mĂžllaâ principle. The waiting list if we need one shall be on the âInterestedâ list. If you need to cancel do so on the facebook event and your payment can be used for the next Nisseman session.
TIMING
Doors open at 08:45 in order to start the pool sessions at 09:00. We swim for about 1 hour doing 100m or 200m Zone 2-3 intervals . Then it's 2 hours spinning with long intervals to the traditional mix of high energy music. Finally we run around an hour out to Isdalen and back or around Storlungesvannet. Approximate timing is:
Meet 08:45
Swim 09:00 - 10:00
Spin 10:20 - 12:40
Run 12:50 - 14:00
Shower and sticky recovery drinks about 14:30
WHAT'S NEW THIS SEASON?
By popular demand the format remains similar, but there will be some changes as we go along which will include; some new music; an optional Strava based volume tracking competition; Message "shout out" at the end of the spinning; a Strava group ride during the spinning that you can follow via your own phone or device in the spinning room and finally an optional late lunch gathering afterwards (pay yourself). Here we need a volunteer to book somewhere and let the rest of us know.
TRAINING BENEFITS
Nisseman is a high volume out of season training event for members of Bergen Triathlon Club. It aims to build base fitness and endurance in triathletes as well as increase confidence in the ability to complete long distance triathlons at pace. According to periodization theory most BTC members competing over the summer season should be carrying out lower intensity longer âBaseâ training over the winter period. This should be combined with specific technique or strength training at other times. How you train during Nisseman is up to you, however I recommend you aim for a solid zone 2-3 session keeping the intensity similar throughout the session.
VOLUME TRACKING COMPETITION
While Nisseman is a social training session, this year there will be the optional opportunity to compete on volume (distance covered) via Strava registration of your swimming, spinning and running. Those wishing to compete should send me a message after each Nisseman event showing their legitimate distances downloaded to Strava during Nisseman so it can be entered into the comparison spread sheet. I will look into a free Nisseman jersey for the winners.
MESSAGE SHOUT OUT
For those wanting a message read out to the group, you can either come up front and ask to use the microphone or you can write messages in the comments section that I can read out.
ZWIFT RIDE
I have set up a Zwift ride that you can join during the spinning. You can view the ride real time on your phone or other device. You need to prepare if you wish to join the Zwift ride.
1) I need to invite you but I can only do so if you follow me STEPHENM WILLIAMS on the Zwift Companion app.
2) You need to update your Zwift and Zwift Companion apps in the app store in order to join the ride.
3) Once invited to the group "meet up" you need to find and accept the meet up. This is done in the Zwift Companion app by clicking on events (bottom of screen) and selecting the group icon (three heads) close to the top of the screen.
4) Once riding in the spinning hall open the Zwift app on your device and during the start up click on the power source, speed sensor and cadence sensor boxes to search for the spinning bike number you are using and select it.
5) Start riding in Zwift and 5 minutes before the ride start (10:30) you should receive a message asking you to join the group ride.
6) The Zwift ride excludes other riders in the Zwift world and is not hold together. Therefore I expect BTC members will end up splitting into small pods according to your strength. You should try to work with your pod to have a good ride.
7) The ride is called "Fuhgeddaboudit" in Zwift Companion and takes place on the new rides in New York.
NISSEMAN JERSEY
The Nisseman 2026 jersey will be designed and sold to those attending 4 or more Nisseman sessions. The price will be discounted according to how much money remains after the rental costs for the student senter are paid. If you have suggestions for the 2026 design, please let me know.
RULES & ETIQUETTE
- It is required to wear either a Nisseman jersey or a triathlon finisher t-shirt at the spinning as bragging rights.
- Ensure your bike shoes are equipped with SPD mountain bike cleats to fit the pedals of the spinning bikes
- There will be a spotify channel set up to allow you to view the music and videos used at Nisseman. Suggestions are welcome.
- Bring enough kit for a full change between spinning and running
- Bring plenty of food and drink to keep your energy up
- Parking advice: Bystasjon is cheapest, Greighallen is nearest.
- Bring a lock so your things are safe in the changing room.
POOL RULES
- Swimming caps are required
- Showering before entering the pool is required
- First time attendees should come and talk to me before starting swimming
- The lanes on the right are for the faster swimmers and the left for the slower.
- Swim on the right side of the lanes
- Each lane to designate a group leader, who leads the program.
- Program suggestion = 200m warm up, 10 x 200m ints with 1 min pause, 200m swim out.
- 5 seconds between start time for each swimmer.
- A tap on the foot from a following swimmer means "Please let me past at the next turn".
- Move to a faster or slower lane if your speed doesn't fit.
