About this Event
Following the amazing October Supertramp event we are back to our standard event & booking format – places are free to reserve but a donation of £5 (or whatever you are comfortable with) on admission is appreciated please – every penny goes to specific items for Harrogate Hospital via the HHCC.
For November 6th we present Nirvana with the 1991 iconic first major label album Nevermind
The “Seattle” or “Grunge” genre had been developing through the 1980s and Nirvana started to enjoy commercial success, although the second album it was the bands first on a major label, interestingly sales gained inertia, even by 1996 sales remained robust as the popularity grew.
For the audio menu we stray from our new format with a few more vintage icons! The Pioneer A400 amplifier was launched amongst much hype a year prior to the album, termed a “Giant Slayer” by the audio press, you can decide for yourself as we put a mint as factory example through its paces, speakers are Quad 22L2 and we spin the disc on a Sony 1970s Direct Drive turntable with one of the best value current cartridges, AT VM95SH.
The fun starts at 7.30pm with an introduction and the backstory of the album from our music historian, Graham Chalmers then playback in full, deep listening as usual, accompanied by Jim’s video show. Jill & Carol host the usual amazing raffle.
