Every time the Nipper Brothers take the stage, it’s easy to see why they are one of the region’s most highly regarded Grateful Dead tribute bands. All the praise about their luscious vocal harmonies is well deserved. They are able to take songs like “Uncle John’s Band” and “High Time” to places that hardly anyone can achieve. They bring the fire with majorly cooking jams on classics like “Althea,” “Cumberland Blues” and “Cassidy.” They even might drop a real “Drumz>Space,” segued into a glorious reading of “Terrapin Station.” Just about anything is possible!
The musicianship in this band is exemplary with the Nipper Brothers themselves – Joe and Scott – leading the way on lead and rhythm guitar. The percussion and vocal harmonies of Rohn Kramer elevate every song in a unique way. The rhythmic duo of Ajeet Campbell on bass and David Welsh on drums keeps things bouncing and grooving from start to finish. The recent addition of keyboardist Dave Finberg brings yet another glorious melodic component to the table. Whether you’re a Grateful Dead aficionado or not, the passionate musicianship at play is too brilliant to be denied!
