About this Event
An nAdvent Service of Nine Lessons & Carols
The Story of Redemption
Join us for a delightful evening of celebration and singing as we remember Christ's birth. Please bring a dessert to pass.
This is a Christmas tradition in the high church of England. Before 1880, students from the Kings College-Cambridge would sing carols from house to house. There came a time when they decided to conduct a formal ceremony at the church.
During WWII, the BBC broadcast the choir despite the cold, because the stained glass had been removed for safekeeping amidst the German bombing.
The first Nine Lessons and Carols took place on December 24, 1880. It is now held every year at the King’s College, Cambridge at 10PM on Christmas Eve.
