* Nine readings: The service consists of nine passages of scripture that narrate the story of salvation.* Alternating carols: Between each reading, a carol is sung, altering between the choir and the congregation.
* Christmas story: The readings begin with prophecies and the story of the fall, moving through the Old and New Testaments to culminate in the birth of Jesus.
