Nine Emperor Festival Tour - Hong San Temple
Nine Emperor Gods Festival (九皇爷诞) is a significant religious event in Southeast Asia especially in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. In Thailand, it is commonly and better known as the Vegetarian Festival. Starting from around the end of the eighth lunar month to the ninth or tenth day of the ninth lunar month, the Nine Emperor Gods Festival lasts for at least nine to ten days
In Singapore, it is one of the largest Chinese religious festivals that has a vibrant and deeply rooted tradition awaiting for us to discover! Celebrated annually by thousands of devotees who will undergoes abstinence and strict vegetarian diet during this period to pay homage to the Nine Emperor Gods. Today, the Nine Emperor Gods Festival is a live testimony of an intangible cultural heritage and community spirit.
Located at 49 Defu Lane 12, since its establishment, Hong San Temple is one of the oldest Nine Emperor Gods temples. It is one of the key locations for the festival in Singapore with rich history. Hong San Temple is a focal point for the celebrations featuring processions and traditional performance. This year, it includes the Teochew Opera performance with troupe flew in from China, Guangdong, Puning.
