Welcome to Night Stories: Working with Dreams in Expressive Therapies! Join us at 2205 York Rd or online on November 11, 2025 at 10:00 AM for a transformative experience. Dive into the world of dreams and learn how to utilize them in expressive therapies. Explore the power of storytelling through dreams and discover new ways to connect with your inner self.
Dreams hold a unique space in human experience—bridging the conscious and unconscious, weaving together memory, symbolism, and emotion. In expressive therapies, dreams offer an entry point into metaphor, play, and creativity. This training will equip participants with tools to integrate dreamwork into sand tray, play therapy, art, movement, and narrative practices while maintaining client-led meaning-making and cultural respect.
Objectives:
- Demonstrate how sand tray and play therapy interventions can be used to externalize and process dream material with children and adolescents.
- Identify the therapeutic powers of play (TPP) engaged when children recreate dream narratives through expressive play.
- Apply directive and nondirective play therapy strategies to address nightmares and recurring dream content.
- Integrate dream exploration into clinical practice consistent with social work values of cultural humility and client self-determination.
- Describe how neuroscience research on REM sleep and trauma can inform evidence-based interventions in social work practice.
- Identify ways dreamwork can support attachment, resilience, and trauma-informed care with children, adolescents, and adults.
