Event Descriptions:
“Cornfield Babylon” (mini-documentary)
Growing out of the fertile soil of Iowa’s Cedar Valley, Cornfield Babylon is a collection of local artists who desire to make films that engage, rattle, and delight audiences by conjuring offbeat, human stories about beautifully flawed individuals.
“Shocking Tales of Surrender” (staged reading)
Ahead of his retirement, an aging and exhausted supervillain stages a final trap for his perennial caped foe in order to achieve some form of closure to a toxic relationship that has run its course.
“Facing Marty”
A man tries to bury the memory of his dead brother, but his friends and family show him that he cannot live in the shadows of regret forever.
Meet Grando: the Waverly Phantom
Based on the classic novel, The Ingenious Gentleman, Don Quixote, of La Mancha, by Miguel de Cervantes, The Waverly Phantom explores the less than legendary misadventures of a lonely, listless middle aged man who long ago lost his war against depression and whiles away his days hiding from the world and reading comic books.
“Rosie”
Rosie, an indomitable woman with Downs Syndrome, is determined to protect herself from the outside world, but her deep seated mistrust of others leads her to see enemies everywhere. Despite her fear of and lack of faith in humanity as a whole, Rosie is driven to leave her home when she discovers that her niece is getting picked on by kids in the neighborhood. Her furious excursion into her own neighborhood includes surprises and revelations that challenge her perspective of the world and the people who inhabit it.
