About this Event
Nigeria in Focus: History and the Politics of Development
This one-day symposium at the University of Huddersfield is designed to reflect on the relationship between history, politics and development in Nigeria. What role can new historical and political science research play in contemporary political discourses over development in Nigeria. Is there a space for academic research to inform policy? How has history been used - and abused - in building political movements and in electoral politics? Why and how are colonial histories been silenced in Nigeria? How can a women’s history of Nigeria inform gendered development policies? We invite papers from academics at any stage of their career that explore the contemporary relevance of historical and political research in shaping policy and practice in Nigeria. Please email a proposal to: [email protected] by 13 December. We also invite anyone interested in these issues to join us for a day of discussion and reflection, including participation in an open roundtable at the close of the day. Refreshments included and Bursary is available for PGR students and presenters. Date of Symposium: 10th of January, 2025. Venue: Heritage Quay, University of Huddersfield, HD1 3DH, Time: 9:30am – 4:30pm. Please advise of any food allergies by sending a message to the email address: [email protected]
