WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE C86 KIDS? AN INDIE ODYSSEY
with Author Nige Tassell and Musician David Gedge of The Wedding Present
About this Event

In 1986, the NME released a cassette that would shape music for years to come. A collection of twenty-two independently signed guitar-based bands, C86 was the sound and ethos that defined a generation.

In Whatever Happened to the C86 Kids?: An Indie Odyssey, acclaimed journalist and author, Nige Tassell travels the length and breadth of the UK to explore the legacy of the C86 tape in his quest to meet members of all twenty-two featured bands and ask the question, ‘What happened next?’ It is a story that features solicitors, superstar DJs, bike shop owners, wedding caricaturists, ornithologists, football stadium announcers and the odd genuine global rock star. And, quite possibly, Jeremy Iron’s arse double.

In this special event, Nige will be joined in person by David Gedge of The Wedding Present.

Nige's book includes exclusive interviews with members of Primal Scream, The Wedding Present, Half Man Half Biscuit, The Soup Dragons, Fuzzbox, The Mighty Lemon Drops, The Pastels, Age of Chance, Bogshed and many more.

More than simply the tale of the tape, Whatever Happened to the C86 Kids? reflects on the lives of all of those present for this influential juncture in the history of UK independent music. These are stories of tragedy and redemption, dreams and perseverance, magic and loss, all told with Tassell’s trademark investigative warmth.

We have two ticket options available: * Event Only and *Event with Discounted Book Combo deal - books will be available for collection at the Festival.

Our event will be followed by a dedicated signing event with both Nige and David. RRP books will also be available for purchase on the day.

For the past twenty-five years, Nige Tassell has written about music, popular culture and sport for a range of titles, including The Word, The Guardian, The Sunday Times, The Independent, Q, Esquire, GQ, Rouleur, the New Statesman and The Blizzard. A highly experienced interviewer and author, Tassell has received admiration for his writing from the likes of Ian Rankin, Stuart Maconie, Janice Long, Danny Baker, Steve Lamacq, Adam Buxton and Gideon Coe. Whatever Happened to the C86 Kids? will be his eighth book.
