Przesympatyczna pielęgniarka Marta przygotowuje w fiolkach śmiertelny środek Nembutal. Doktor Piotr drukuje potrzebne do dokonania procedury zaświadczenia. Właściciel kliniki, Ryszard, umila ostatnie chwile pacjentów puszczając z kompaktu operetkę „Zemsta Nietoperza” (choć niektórzy pewnie woleliby słuchać przy tym motywu ze „Star Wars”).
Kornél Mundruczó wraz z zespołem TR Warszawa realizuje klasyczną operę buffo. Sięgając po utwór, który powstał równolegle z ogłoszeniem przez Nietzschego śmierci Boga, węgierski reżyser podejmuje temat “śmierci bez Boga” i zadaje nieśmiertelne pytanie: Kto decyduje o naszym życiu? Kto decyduje o naszym cierpieniu? Kto akceptuje nasz wybór? I czy w ogóle mamy jakiś wybór?

?? It is in the middle of winter - a few days before New Year’s Eve. Several families that have never met before are gathering in the unsettling and cold interiors of the same institution in a remote location. They are making preparations to spend the last night of the year together evoking the sweet strains of the famous operetta Die Fledermaus (The Bat) by Johann Strauss, Jr.
Though they are to spend only a few days there, quite a few of them have sacrificed a lot to be able to make it to the opportunity. Nothing, neither time nor money, was too much for them to put on stake, some even ran the risk of losing their reputations by getting admission to the place. Some of them are young, others - old, some are married, others - single. The only feature that makes them similar is that they are most keen on getting to know whether a human being can take the liberty to perform the act of God.
Having directed “Tender Son, The Frankenstein Project” – the movie nominated to Golden Palm Awards,
Kornel Mundruczó and the TR Warszawa’s actors have created a classical buffo opera. Basing his production on the text which was written at the same time Nietzsche announced that God is dead, the Hungarian director discusses the issue of “godless death” and asks the same old question: are we allowed to make decisions on our lives and if we are, to which extent are we allowed to do it?
