The Collaborative
In 2021 each NHS funded organisation in the region was invited to join the NHSE SW Infection Prevention Control Collaborative. The ambition was to provide an opportunity for participants to become more familiar with quality improvement tools and techniques, so they could develop the confidence to apply them when approaching change. Participants were encouraged to connect and develop relationships, by working collaboratively with different professional groups within, or external to, their own organisation.
The Collaborative aim
By September 2022, 95% of those participating in the SW NHSEI Infection Prevention Control (IPC) Collaborative will have increased confidence, knowledge and experience of applying Quality Improvement (QI) methodology and be in an improved position to lead and influence sustainable change by adopting a collaborative, QI approach to infection prevention & control, which in the long-term will achieve better outcomes for patients and staff.
The outcome
During the past year, members of the Collaborative have attended Learning Events, Coaching Calls and Drop-in Clinics. They have gained a greater understanding and confidence to use QI tools and techniques as they approach the challenges, they face in Infection Prevention Control.
Areas of improvement include:
• Training
• Post Infection Review Process
• Antibiotic prescribing
• Documentation
• Communication
