Goldman, M.D. as he delves into the captivating world of Civil War history with a focus on W.W.H Davis and the 14th and 15th Amendments. Instrumental to the republic’s preservation and slavery’s destruction, the green young men who left home “to see the elephant” returned as professional soldiers who had witnessed sights and performed deeds they never could have imagined. Tightly bound by ideological resoluteness, white and black Northern veterans realized just what lay ahead, and that “the unfinished work”of equality for all Americans promised to be as bitter, divisive, and perilous as the war itself, if not more so.
