Friday, April 12 at Soul Cafe in OlyWa, Nexstage Music Showcase is hosting Earl Brooks and Rob Sanville for an evening of great tunes from a pair of Pacific Northwest stalwarts.
Earl and Rob were major forces in the Belltown music scene of the 80s and 90s. Back when Belltown was Seattle's Bohemian enclave, they regularly played at storied venues such as the Two Bells Tavern, the Ditto and the Five Point Cafe, mixing country, pop, rock, punk and what-have-you in their own bands and as solo artists.
One of the original psychobillies. Earl Brooks started playing music in Idaho before landing in Seattle. He has been involved in the music scene for many years as a booker, band leader, producer and director of the cable access show Bongo Corral (a live TV music show). Writing songs that tap into personal experience. Some profound, some humorous, but always striving to hit the right chord. Every performance different from the last.
Rob Sanville (aka R. Sanville, aka Robert G Sanville) has made a career out of riding other, better musicians' coattails. Earl Brooks, for example, allowed him to contribute his meager talents to the legendary Wigglin' Taters in Belltown, Seattle in the '80s. Chris Adams, the driving force behind the band Loggerhead, sadly couldn't seem to find anyone better to write songs and front the band, and so was stuck with him for 20 years. Most people think he's lived much too long and should get out of the way to make room for the younger generations. It's perfectly ok to talk over him while he's playing. He expects it
