What to expect:

Our newt experts will be checking what species of newts have swum into our traps overnight before carefully releasing them back into the water.


About BioBlitz 2024:

BioBlitz is an interactive, participatory, one-day event bringing together families, school groups, and local community members to engage in nature-based learning with University of Kent students, scientists, and local wildlife experts, including Kent Wildlife Trust; Butterfly Conservation; Kent Moth Group. Hosted by the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE), the aim of the event is to record as many species of wildlife as possible on campus.

All surveys will start from the central hub in the Colyer-Fergusson hall (Near Gulbenkian). Please meet here 5-10 minutes before the start of the survey so that you can sign-in.


Please note:

All surveys are free, however prior booking is encouraged to ensure surveys are not oversubscribed.


Accessibility information:

  • Located at the field site at Kent COG
  • 1.5km (1 mile) away from the bioblitz hub
  • Tarmac paths all the way from hub to COG
  • Newt site itself likely to be muddy
