While Newport’s larger burial sites get the most attention, the smaller ones scattered throughout the city are worthy of exploration. Most date to colonial times and provide pockets of history and artistry for residents and visitors of the city. This lecture will include sites related to Newport’s religious congregation, among them the oldest existing Jewish burial ground in the country. Family burial sites will be visited and the story of the Arnold site and its savior, Alice Brayton, will be shared. This lecture takes place in the historic Belmont Chapel at Island Cemetery. The lecture is free but registration is requested- [email protected]
