Newer Researchers Day 2023: 'Folklore Now!'

The Newer Researchers Day brings together researchers from all disciplines with an interest in folklore research. It is a workshop intended to celebrate, share, and develop skills in the innovative ways in which many researchers are approaching the subject of the folklore of now.

Experts will run informative and interactive sessions on material culture of folklore, folklorists in the field, child-lore, and more.

The Folklore Society and the Elphinstone Institute, wishing to promote the development of a new generation of scholars, have been hosting the biennial Newer Researchers in Folklore Day since 2014. This year’s event is co-sponsored by the University of Hertfordshire, and will take place at the Centre for Folklore, Myth, and Magic in Todmorden, Yorkshire: https://www.folkloremythmagic.com/

During the event, we aim to: provide an informal space to share experiences, achievements, and strategies in overcoming challenges in researching contemporary folklore; explore potential collaborations between newer researchers; and consider what different disciplines can bring to Folklore Studies and vice versa.

Tickets for the event are free, but we welcome donations to The Folklore Society. Accessibility: There is one step into the building and a fold-up ramp if requested. Once inside, the event venue will be on one level with an accessible toilet. There is no venue car park, but on-street parking close by and an all-day pay-and-display car park 0.2 miles away. Private space can be made available for breastfeeding and prayer.
