Children's Cancer North
Our mission is to make life better for children with cancer. Any child diagnosed with cancer in the North East, Northumberland or North Cumbria must travel to the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle to undergo treatment. We aim to support families when their world is turned upside down. Some of our services include:
Providing families with £250 upon diagnosis, to help towards unforeseen travel, parking and food expenses.
Funding music therapy, animation therapy and art therapy to boost mental health and help children through long, gruelling days of treatment.
Sending families to Center Parcs to make lovely family memories together.
Investing in revolutionary research to improve outcomes for children, to develop early phase trials and to make treatments safer and kinder for children’s bodies.
Candlelighters
Each year, over 150 children in Yorkshire are diagnosed with cancer. When a child is diagnosed, lives are turned upside down instantly: not just for the child but the entire family. Getting well again can be a long and challenging journey, emotionally, physically, and financially. Supporting children and families throughout that journey is why our charity, Candlelighters, was formed more than 40 years ago.
Our mission is to bring light to every family affected by childhood cancer across Yorkshire by providing emotional, practical and financial support, as well as bringing hope, by investing in vital research to improve the outcomes and lives of children with cancer.
