The Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations are coming back to Newcastle for 2026! Year of horse with a full day of vibrant celebrations, performances, and family-friendly activities across the city centre.The celebrations begin at 11am with the traditional eye-dotting ceremony at Grey’s Monument, followed by firecrackers and the start of the New Year Parade. The parade will travel through Blackett Street and Gallowgate, ending at the Chinese Arch. Chinese Lion will continue through Stowell Street, Monk Street, and Fenkle Street, finishing at Bath Lane.
From 11am, the Chinese Arch will host a programme of traditional performances including Tai Chi, Chinese flute, traditional Chinese musical instruments, opera singing, and Tai Chi dance.
From 10.30am, visitors can enjoy food and market stalls, a children’s arts and crafts marquee, and fairground rides located on Bath Lane, offering something for all ages.
The event celebrates the Year of the Horse, symbolising energy, confidence, and forward movement, and invites residents and visitors alike to experience Chinese culture in the heart of Newcastle
