Repair Café is back in Thatcham later this month! Our skilled volunteers do their best to repair your items. This helps to reduce waste and prolong the life of your items. You may have to wait for a repairer to be available. Enjoy a cuppa, a biscuit and a chat in the meantime. Repairs are free, but donations are welcome to help fund our future events. As usual, we will be offering repairs of:
~Electrical and electronic items
~Clothing and textiles
~Ceramics and jewellery
~Small items of furniture and wooden objects
~Other general household and garden items
*For all electricals and electronics: Please ensure that you bring any batteries, chargers, ancillary leads, power supplies, speakers, etc. to enable us to fully test the faulty item. For safety reasons, all mains-powered items must be PAT tested before any repair can take place, and again afterwards, even if the item has not been fixed.*
Also available:
~Secateur, knife and scissor sharpening (a limit of 1 large or 2 small items, please)
~Mobile phone and IT advice/troubleshooting
Last items for repair must be checked in inside the hall 30 minutes before the end of the event (i.e., 12 p.m.). Sometimes there is exceptional demand for certain types of repairs (generally electrical goods), so there may be a long wait or we may have to ask you to come back the following month instead. We, as volunteers, try to offer the best service we can, but it's hard to estimate how long a repair will take.
Please bring one item only. It should be clean and small/light enough for one person to carry. Sorry, we cannot repair microwaves, petrol-driven items, or gas appliances for safety reasons. Even if something can’t be repaired on the spot, we may be able to advise on parts to buy, or how to repair at home. You may be able to rejoin the queue with another item if time allows.
If you’re wondering if your item can be repaired, please email us at [email protected] with the make and model if applicable, and what needs repairing. Photos can sometimes help.
Have a look at the photo albums from our previous events to see the wide variety of items we have repaired so far. In the time that we've been operating, we have assessed over 1200 items and saved nearly 1000 of them from going to landfill. That's nearly 2300 kg rescued from waste processing!
Looking forward to seeing you at Frank Hutchings Community Hall, Thatcham, RG18 4QH on 31st August, 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
