A venezuelai születésű, de évtiezedek óta new york-i bázisú billentyűs, Benito Gonzalez a világ egyik legkeresettebb, a szakma és a szélesebb közönség által is körberajongott jazz-zongoristája. Kenny Garrett zenekarával bejárta a világot, a legnevesebb nemzetközi fesztiválok és jazzklubok színpadain játszott. 2004-ben első önálló, Starting Point című lemezével zeneszerzőként is felhívta magára a figyelmet. Starting Point című albumán nem kisebb nevek működtek közre, mint Christian McBride és Antonio Sanchez. Ezen a koncerten a dobok mögött egy igazi világklasszis csatlakozik a latin és modern jazz kiemelkedő alakjához, aki 2017-ben saját triójával már ámulatba ejtette a BJC közönségét. Jeff Tain Watts az elmúlt harmincöt évben többek közt Kenny Garrett, Pat Martino, Michael Brecker, Steve Coleman, Ravi Coltrane és Terence Blanchard nevével fémjelzett zenekarokban játszott. A produkciói közben gyakran eksztatikus állapotba kerülő dobos pályáját 1981-ben a korszak első számú jazz formációjában, a ma is világklasszis trombitás, Wynton Marsalis Quartetjében kezdte. Hét év közös munka után Jeff Tain új partnereket keresett, és rövid idő után – mely alatt nem kisebb formátumú művészekkel működött együtt, mint George Benson és McCoy Tyner – '89-ben a Marsalis zenészdinasztia másik vezető egyéniségéhez, a szaxofonos Branford által vezetett zenekarhoz csatlakozott.
A kirobbanó erő, káprázatos sebesség, és a komplex ritmusképletek elegye mellett Watts előadásmódjában felfedezhető valamiféle ritka elegancia úgy, hogy ezzel egy időben a „dzsindzsa“ őserő sem szorul háttérbe. Benito Gonzalez is being recognized as an exciting pianist and composer for his well-received debut album „Starting Point” (Christian McBride, Antonio Sanchez, Rene McLean, Ron Blake) in addition to taking home first prize at the Great American Jazz Piano Competition
Benito’s acclaimed sophomore album, „Circles” (Ron Blake, Myron Walden, Azar Lawrence, Christian McBride, Jeff “Tain” Watts), reveals a very personal body of work as he emerges as a leader and an accomplished improviser. Recently, Benito received more critical attention for his work on Garrett’s Grammy - Nominated album „Seeds from the Underground”.
After almost seven years of touring with Kenny Garrett, Benito has added numerous festivals and international jazz club dates to his credit. He has also shared the stage with Curtis Fuller, Pharaoh Sanders, Bobby Hutcherson, Christian McBride, Ignacio Berroa, Roy Hargrove, Rene McLean, Steve Turre, Hamiet Bluiett, Antonio Sanchez, T.K. Blue, Nicholas Payton, Azar Lawrence, and Jackie McLean.
His multi-cultural talents have led to frequent recording dates, from American jazz masters such as Kenny Garrett and Azar Lawrence, to West African musicians and Latin bands. Benito has also served as musical director for several Venezuelan Recording Artists.
Presently, Benito is touring the world with numerous jazz clubs an international festivals to his credit, including several extensive tours of Europe as leader of his own Benito Gonzalez Trio.
Jeff Watts, the drummer they call “Tain,” spent his formative years with Wynton and Branford Marsalis, and his compositional skills now command equal attention.
Jeff initially majored in classical percussion at Pittsburgh's Duquesne University, where he was primarily a timpanist, followed by enrollment at the Berklee School of Music. Jeff joined the Wynton Marsalis Quartet in 1981 and proceeded to win three Grammy Awards with the ensemble: Black Codes From The Underground, J Mood and Marsalis Standard Time. Watts left Wynton Marsalis in 1988. After working with George Benson, Harry Connick. Jr. and McCoy Tyner, he joined the Branford Marsalis Quartet in 1989, winning Grammy's for I Heard You Twice the First Time and Contemporary Jazz.
In the film and television industry Jeff has appeared as both a musician on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and as an actor, Rhythm Jones in Spike Lee’s “Mo Better Blues”. Jeff joined Kenny Garrett's band after returning to New York in 1995 and continued to record and tour with Branford Marsalis as well as Danilo Perez, Michael Brecker, Betty Carter, Kenny Kirkland, Courtney Pine, Geri Allen, Alice Coltrane, Greg Osby, McCoy Tyner, Steve Coleman, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Harry Connick Jr, and Ravi Coltrane.
