About the yoga teacher training course
Our yoga teacher training programme is based on the ‘New Yoga Will’ founded by Heinz Grill. In this new approach we explore the inner meanings of the yoga poses and develop our own individual feeling for the wisdom and harmony that lies at their heart. We learn to give creative expression to our experiences through an active and aesthetic practice.
The course enables you to develop a real and deep understanding of the yoga poses and chakras in their inner meanings. You will learn how to shape the poses in a thorough and detailed way, out of a clear, creative consciousness giving them more depth and expression.
The yoga teacher training programme consists of 24 monthly weekend workshops in Somerset with yoga teacher Karen Patterson and physiotherapist Jill Canney, and one long weekend per year in Italy with the spiritual teacher Heinz Grill. The course lasts two years and consists of eight modules lasting 3 months each. There is a short written assignment at the end of each module and an assessed teaching practice at the end of the course. Upon completion you will receive a yoga teaching certificate accredited by the Independent Yoga Network.
Entry criteria
If you are interested in enrolling on the course, it is important that you:
- have some familiarity with the approach to yoga taught at Yoga in Somerset, and know that this is the approach you would like to develop further
- are able to practise the basic poses such as the sun salutations and the shoulderstand
- have established some sort of regular practice at home.
In order to meet these criteria you should have been attending weekly classes at Yoga in Somerset for a period of at least 6 months AND/OR completed the yoga intensive course.

Dates of next courses
The next yoga intensive course will start on 13th January 2024.
