The Lacey Boyd New Year's Parade has become a cherished tradition for many families throughout Montgomery and its surrounding cities. Founded by husband and wife William and Lacey Boyd 20 years ago, it started as a small idea and has grown into a community staple. It all began from a conversation between the two. Lacey mentioned her dream of experiencing the Macy's Day Parade in New York, along with the ball drop and fireworks. William immediately thought, "Why go all the way to New York? Why not have our own parade here? If they can do it, we can too." In that moment, ideas were exchanged, and a vision was born. A few weeks later, they applied for a parade permit, and within six months, hosted Alabama's first New Year's Parade.Over the years, many notable people have attended the parade, including civil rights leader Al Sharpton, former NFL running back Bishop Sankey, "Atlanta Housewives" star Gocha Hawkins, nationally known entrepreneur and philanthropist Gregory Calhoun, BET comedian and concert host Stanford "MC" Lightfoot, Minority Leader of the state House of Representatives Anthony Daniels, and various mayors and political figures from Montgomery and surrounding cities.
