Happy New Year Native Plant Society of Oregon! We're happy to launch the New Year with a nature walk focusing on botany. We will start at Riverbend Park and follow the Deschutes River Trail for about a half mile to Reed Market and Farewell Bend Park. We will walk at a botanist pace (slow) and probably photograph plants for observations on iNaturalist. The path is fairly level but not paved, so wear appropriate footwear. We may venture a bit off the path, but will be respectful of native plants and Bend Park and Recreation’s work to protect the fragile shoreline vegetation. This walk is great for ALL ages and no botany skills are required. Bring binoculars (in case we see some birds), a copy of The Nature of Bend (field guide), and a hand lens if you have one. Come join us and learn about identifying native plants during the winter and maybe make a new friend. Children welcome, but please, no dogs. There are restrooms at Riverbend and Farewell Bend Parks. Total walking distance up to 1.5 miles.Location: Riverbend Park (799 SW Columbia Street, south end of the Old Mill District); meet at the covered picnic area behind the restrooms
