Join Jason Wise (aka @jasonjourneyman) on an easy, 2 mile round trip, 200ft elevation change exploration of our local ecosystems through the lens of QUEER ECOLOGY--the study of everything in nature that subverts western cultural expectations about how the world *should* work. The natural world does not subscribe to any particular human culture, it just exists as a beautifully diverse tapestry of ways to survive and thrive--individualistic or communal; patriarchal or matriarchal; heterosexual, homosexual, or in the case of most flowers, bisexual. We will observe, share, and learn about nature in ways that reflect our own diversity, and then connect to it on a whole new beautiful level.
For the December walk there will be a special focus on the ways in which the holidays like Christmas, Winter Solstice, and Hannukah are rooted in nature, with this like mistletoe, toyon (california holly), pine trees, and reindeer. We'll start the hike sharing a warm foraged cider.
Jason is a certified California naturalist, professional outdoor environmental educator, a native plant daddy, and prolific tree hugger. He teaches about native and invasive plants, connected ecosystems, the ecological history of California, and how we can all leave it better. Let's go explore nature together!
