Open Hands Legal Services recruits and trains volunteers to meet with and provide limited scope civil legal services to needy and vulnerable clients. The volunteers work under the supervision of OHLS attorneys at mobile legal aid desks, which are held at various locations throughout the city.In order to become a volunteer and serve at a legal aid desk, one must complete the New Volunteer Training.

The training will provide client interviewing skills and legal aid desk procedures, a substantive training on ethics in limited scope legal services, as well as an overview of Housing Law, a key area seen frequently at our desks.We request a commitment to volunteer within 4 months of the training, as well as attendance at an Experienced Volunteer Training. Experienced Volunteer Trainings cover various substantive areas of law frequently seen at the legal aid desks and are offered several times throughout the year.

Although it is not required for a volunteer to be an attorney, attorney volunteers are highly needed.

We would prefer that since this is an in-person event, participants would complete COVID-19 vaccination prior to attending the event. Thank you for your consideration.
