A beloved Upper West Side fixture for nearly 20 years, Nice Matin is the quintessential French brasserie. Join us for a blind tasting of exceptional vintage Bordeaux wines from some of my favorite producers, perfectly paired with their Provençal-inspired cuisine.

Just a reminder of our usual rules:

\\ The cost of this event is $62 and is for the cost of the wines only.

NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. Sorry! Meetup+ members are exempt from this charge.

You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and either appetizer or dessert) for your dinner. There are very few restaurants that allow us to bring our own wine for a Zero corkage fee. We must be good guests to encourage the restaurant to continue to be generous to us.

Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee. Please use public transportation - NO DRINKING AND DRIVING!

As Burgundy continues to inspire the wine world, a new wave of producers is adopting its philosophy—precise viticulture, minimal intervention, and deep site expression—in regions beyond the Côte d’Or. These winemakers aren’t copying Burgundy; they’re translating its methods into their own terroirs. Two standout examples are Jintaro Yura in Alsace and Daniel Twardowski in the Mosel, each crafting wines of clarity, tension, and originality.

Jintaro Yura (Alsace, France)
A Tokyo-born winemaker who honed his skills in Burgundy and New Zealand, Jintaro settled in Alsace in 2012. After working with top estates like Josmeyer, he launched Domaine Yura in 2020. His wines—precise, organic, and expressive—highlight the quiet power of Alsatian terroir through a minimalist lens.

Daniel Twardowski (Mosel, Germany)
A Burgundy obsessive, Twardowski made the radical move of planting Pinot Noir in the slate soils of the Mosel, using vine material from Grand Cru vineyards like Richebourg and Clos de la Roche. His “Pinot Noix” wines are structured, elegant, and increasingly refined, proving that the Mosel is capable of much more than Riesling.

The Wines:

2023 Yura L'Abeille et Le Papillon Pinot Blanc - Cellar Tracker 91.4 Yura Pinot Blanc “L’Abeille et le Papillon” 2023 is a biodynamic blend of Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois, grown on clay-limestone soils in Alsace. It opens with delicate aromas of white flowers, citrus, and soft stone fruit, with subtle hints of honey and spice. The palate is silky, fresh, and mineral-driven, showing a beautiful balance between floral elegance and savory umami depth. Aged in a mix of stainless steel and demi-muids (new and used), it combines vibrant acidity with a creamy texture and a long, flowing finish. Best enjoyed slightly chilled, and ideally opened an hour before serving.

2023 Yura Le Silence et La Resonance Riesling - Cellar Tracker 92 - Nice nose with fragrant notes of stone fruit, tropical fruit, lemon, and grapefruit. Nice acidity balancing the riper fruit flavors, more peach, citrus, melon, and minerals. Feels like there may be a hint of RS, but it's not distracting at all. Nice finish that lingers. This was quite lovely! Significantly richer and rounder than the 2021, but also deeper and more complex.(glou.sf(http://glou.sf))

2018 Daniel Twardowski, Pinot Noix Ardoise, Mosel \- Jancis Robinson 17\.5 \- Spätburgunder\( German name for Pinot Noir\)\. Plum has the upper hand on the nose \(so to speak\)\, complemented by fine nuances of blackberry\. On the vegetal front chilli\-pepper leaves and the smell of woodland add complexity\, with the faintest notion of sandalwood bringing up the olfactory rear\. A very juicy taste with healthy acidity carries notes of fruits of the forest\, a hint of cranberry and a little chocolate\. Nuances of white pepper and clove tickle the taste buds on the finish\, fine tannins add backbone\. \(MS\)

2021 Daniel Twardowski, Pinot Noix 3rd, Mosel - The 2020 Pinot Noix 3rd, as it is referred to on the front label (light green in color), was made with 10-20% of stems from fruit harvested on up to 10-year-old vines and was matured in 2-3-year-old used Burgundy barrique. This lightly red-colored wine offers a beautifully spicy and herbal nose of ripe red fruits, blackberry, cherry, licorice, iodine, and a hint of almond pit, all wrapped in a fine note of volatile acidity. The wine proves superbly light-weighted and finely juicy on the fresh and zesty palate. The finish has good grip and energy, with slightly present tannins which still need to be integrated. This is a superb drinking Pinot Noir. (Mosel Fine Wines)
