--ABOUT THE ARTIST--
Biting, genuine, thoughtful, playful, joyful, and sincere, Nashville's New Translations embraces contradictions and exists to confound—a band that captures the dizzy surreality of being alive in confusing times. After a series of singles and EPs like 2023’s “The Business,” New Translations—singer Oliver Pierce, multi-instrumentalists Isaac Middleton and Andres Ahogado, bassist and producer Ben Dunn, and drummer Philip Walker—have settled into a new era that finds them doubling down on their complexities, while writing some of their most vulnerable songs to date.
Since their 2021 emergence, New Translations has been electrifying stages with a high-voltage fusion of synth-driven indie rock, new wave nostalgia, and alt-pop. This five-piece powerhouse has rapidly become synonymous with emotionally charged, high-impact performances, transforming every show into a cathartic, communal experience. Their undeniable live prowess has already propelled them to major stages, including Bonnaroo and a coveted 2025 tour supporting Rainbow Kitten Surprise.
New Translations expertly balances retro textures with a distinctly modern voice, staking their claim in a lane entirely their own. Their debut album, “Vacation,” is a masterclass in channeling influences from ’80s post-punk, dream pop, and shoegaze into anthemic explorations of vulnerability and transformation. With their new music, the members of New Translations stand confident in their role as boundary pushers and leaders of a non-country music vanguard in Nashville. Their mission remains: “I want us to find the outsiders and create a community that celebrates the strange,” Pierce says.
“When this band was first at the Sails Original Music Series, they were called Jive Talk. They got signed to Warner Brothers, and they changed their name. But they still have that quirky pop intensity that made us love them before. A young, exciting band comes back for more!” says Bob Sinclair, coordinator for the Sails Original Music Series.

The Sails on the Square are located in the heart of downtown Hickory on Union Square. In addition to the seating available at Union Square, audience members are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. ABC permitted businesses within the Hickory Downtown Social District sell beer, wine, and other alcoholic beverages in specially marked cups that may be consumed on Union Square, sidewalks, and other public areas within the designated boundaries of the social district.
