New to Vail—or new to desert living in general? Welcome! We’re so glad you’re here. This free monthly class is our way of saying hello, helping you settle in, and sharing a few desert secrets so you can grow with confidence (and maybe make a few new friends along the way).
This class is designed for brand-new desert gardeners and is offered once a month with the same foundational material each time. Think of it as Desert Plants 101—the stuff you really need to know when you first arrive. If you’re ready for deeper, season-specific topics, we also host a rotating beginner gardening class on the second Saturday of each month.
We’ll talk about how to read your yard’s sun exposure, how desert watering actually works (spoiler alert: if you’re watering the same way you did in Nebraska, Minnesota, or “back home”… you’re probably doing it wrong 😉), simple planting tips, and which plants give you the best early wins in our climate.
This class is relaxed, practical, and judgment-free. Ask questions, take notes—or don’t. Enjoy the mountain views, soak in the peaceful vibes, and get to know other new neighbors who are figuring this desert thing out right alongside you.
What to expect:
• Anyone is welcome — you don’t have to live in Vail; open to anyone new to the desert
• Always free — no cost to attend
• Same material every month — come once for the essentials
• Every attendee goes home with a free plant 🌱
• Beverages & snacks available for purchase
• Kids are welcome to attend and take home a free succulent from Lil’ Sprout Station
• Friendly dogs on leashes welcome
• Held on our terrace with gorgeous mountain views — come for the info, stay to unwind
