“Early Fall Color of Leaves and Landscape”
All levels are Welcome.
This workshop will concentrate on changing colors of vine plants, e.g. grape, maple leaves and the changing colors of the landscape. Sumi art emphasizes semi-abstract expression. This workshop will concentrate on learning authentic skills and techniques of Sumi painting as well as comparison of western watercolor. It is best to loosen up a little and paint in a more expressive Sumi style.
This workshop welcomes beginning and professional artists. We will work a lot on an individual basis. Painters new to sumi-e, and those experienced in East Asian watercolor painting will be introduced and encouraged to look at the “World” in a different artistic perspective. There will be demos, exercises, and one-on-one attention.
We will use non-sized rice paper: Long Fiber Shuan. Participants are encouraged to create the painting based on the composition theory learned in the workshop yet showing individual creative talents.
Please bring your Accordion screen sketch books and you can transfer your landscape sketch to paintings. It is highly recommended that we paint Sumi “plein air” style on an accordion screen sketchbook, which requires no mounting or framing but displays the artwork in a unique way.
