The New Smyrna Museum of History offers a compelling journey through time with exhibits that highlight the region’s diverse and vibrant past. Visitors can begin with the Native American History exhibit, which showcases the lives and cultures of the area’s earliest inhabitants through artifacts and interpretive displays. The museum explores the ambitious 18th-century Turnbull Settlement, one of the largest British colonial endeavors in North America, revealing the challenges and legacy of its multicultural settlers. The Pioneer Years exhibit delves into the resilience of early residents who shaped the town through agriculture and trade. The transformative impact of the Railroad Era is also featured, illustrating how rail connectivity spurred economic growth and tourism. For a more contemporary perspective, the East Coast Surf Exhibit celebrates New Smyrna Beach’s iconic surf culture with memorabilia and stories from local legends. Finally, the Veterans History exhibit honors the service of local military members through personal narratives and historical artifacts.
We will do a guided tour of the museum at 2:00 pm, which is expected to take about an hour. The museum closes at 4:00 pm. After the museum tour, join us at Esther Street Park for a homeschool beach hangout (7 minutes away). This is NOT a drop-off event. At least one caregiver must attend.
