Another instalment in the New Routes series, an evening of acoustic, folk and roots artists.
Set out cabaret style with candles on tables, it’s a comfortable and intimate space to listen to the best emerging and established artists from the area.
Featuring…
Josh Robins
After a good few years busking around the country, fronting for his band ‘The Mardlers’, and playing in the pubs, Josh Robins is starting a solo music career. ‘My father was a folk singer’ he says, ‘And I wanna be whatever that looks like in 2024’. He’s spent the last 5 years living, writing and studying from his self converted van in Cambridge, and has become well known in the local scene for his coherent, poetic, story driven lyrics, embedded in his education and passion for English literature.
In his voice can be heard the northern twang of his family and the rough countryside feel of the East Anglian fens in which he grew up. He considers himself as one amongst the burgeoning scene of young musical immigrants who have settled in Cambridge upon finding like-minded songwriters who trail the pubs looking for a good old folk song. He sincerely wishes to be a nationally recognised songwriter, and to perform full time around the country.
His first professional EP, recorded at Gladeside studios, was released in September. This has achieved positive reviews in various magazines, numerous local radio plays round the country, and his first tour of the Uk and Ireland has been considered a success.
‘witty, observational folk songs for the millennial generation’ – Rockshot Magazine

‘You won’t forget the emotion and energy that Josh conveys in his music’ Sonic News
‘evocative storytelling and melodic prowess’ Indie boulevard
Ed Blunt
Ed Blunt is a multi-instrumentalist songwriter whose lyrics hold a mirror to 21st-century life. From swiping right for love to pipe dreams on the 7:38 to London Bridge, his songs will both make you laugh and gently break your heart.
Drawing comparisons to the likes of Matt Maltese, Rufus Wainwright and Paul Simon, Ed’s endearing stage presence and candid storytelling have won him a devoted fan following.
The unexpected detour in Ed’s musical journey occurred during the Covid lockdown when his day job as a pianist and choir director was disrupted. Serendipity struck as he stumbled upon an online songwriting camp, where mentor Chris Difford (of Squeeze) played a pivotal role in discovering Ed’s talent for the first time.
Since then, Ed has written songs for major artists including Jamie Lawson, Kezia Gill and Elles Bailey. He has penned two albums under his own name: 2022’s Over The Moon and the recently released Grown Up (April 2024).
Grown Up, his latest record, transports listeners from the sun-soaked shores of Sicily to the neon lights of Broadway through his immersive musical landscapes. The record features collaborations with musical peers, including Grammy-nominated artist Beth Nielsen Chapman, American-Scottish folk enchantress Daisy Chute and rising UK sensation Hollie Rogers.
“A quiet genius.. his songs are wry and completely brilliant” Chris Difford (Squeeze)
“A unique ability to reframe universal truths in a way that really hits home” Brum Radio
