Soul Song Gawler is launching in November 2024 with an afternoon workshop, followed by a 5 week taster pop up choir. The vision is to continue with a permanent choir in 2025, which will also be joined by one or two sister choirs in Adelaide from January.
THE REHEARSAL EXPERIENCE
Soul Song Gawler, directed by Brianna Teehan and Cindy-Anne MacDonald, will initially rehearse every Thursday from 14 November - 12 December 2024, with plans to continue in 2025. Rehearsals will be held at The Loft, Gawler Arms Hotel, 102 Murray St, Gawler.
New members, from 16 upwards, are welcome at any time and your first rehearsal is always free so you can check us out without obligation.
The singing starts at 6.30pm but doors open from 6.00pm so you're welcome to come in a bit early. Rehearsals go through until 8.30pm. There is great food downstairs in the pub if you want to grab a meal first and you're more than welcome to buy a drink at the bar downstairs and bring it up into the rehearsal room.
At a typical rehearsal, we will do some fun warm ups before working on two songs and finishing with a celebratory song at the end of the session known as the Soulster Parade.
Those who come the most often get the most out of Soul Song but there is no expectation for people to come every single week and we have lots of resources available for those who miss a week or a few to help them catch up if they want to. You'll get more information on this when you join, but these include audio learning tracks, video tutorials, sheet music, technical tutorials and more.
We will give you a member pack and all the lyrics you need once you've signed up. Then each week when you come, you just need to bring some water, a highlighter, pen or pencil, your lyric book and reading glasses if you're of that kind of age!
Your first rehearsal is free so you can come along and check us out without obligation! Once you sign up as a member and pay your fees, you can attend as many rehearsals a week online or in person as you want. For more details check out our Gawler Choir webpage: www.soulsongchoirs.com.au/gawler
N.B.: As we are expecting a lot of interest and have limited capacity in the venue, to avoid disappointment, we recommend that you pre-register with us to reserve your space. There is no payment required, but it will help us to know who is coming and ensures that you'll be in the room where it happens for our first ever Soul Song rehearsal outside of Queensland!

For those with accessibility requirements, all of our rehearsal venues are wheelchair accessible. We do recommend that you give us a call before coming along though just to make sure we're expecting you and can make your arrival as easy as possible.
WHO ARE SOUL SONG CHOIRS?
Soul Song Choirs are non-religious, funky pop choirs for people from all backgrounds and with all levels of musical experience to come together because they love to sing.
Our members are teachers, electricians, nurses, lawyers, business owners, students, retirees and retail workers. Some have a heap of musical experience when they come to us and some have none. We have quite a few mums/dads/daughters/sons/sisters too so it's a great way to stay connected with your family and have fun together!
Everything about Soul Song is designed to make life easy for you. We know you're busy so there is no expectation for you to come to every single rehearsal - you just come when you feel like singing. What's even better is that there are no auditions and you don't even have to be able to read music. We teach all the songs by ear in a fun and relaxed atmosphere and we provide you with all the lyrics you need as well as some additional resources for those who want to practice on their own during the week.
The songs we sing are generally pop songs from all eras but with some gospel, motown and soul thrown in. We sing generally in three or four part harmony and with either professional backing tracks or a cappella (which means without instruments).
We are on a mission just to get people singing by providing a fun and funky space for people of all musical experience to sing together music that is good for the soul.
